Situated in the crofting township of Borreraig, this former school and
schoolhouse was previously used as the MacCrimmon Piping Heritage Centre.
In 1595, the then MacLeod of Dunvegan (Ruaraidh Mhor) and Sir Iain MacCrimmon
signed the Deed of Friendship and it was during Ruaraidh Mhor's lifetime that the
MacCrimmons became hereditary pipers to the Chiefs of the Clan MacLeod. In
return the MacCrimmons were given land at Borreraig.

The property
is situated at an elevated and prominent location with unrestricted views over
the township to the MacCrimmon Cairn and thence to Loch Dunvegan and
to the Outer Isles.
The building was constructed 125 years ago in a traditional stone manner
under a slated roof by Dr. Alexander Ross of Inverness (1834 - 1925), a
prominent Victorian architect who built a number of notable buildings throughout
the Highlands (e.g. St Andrew's Cathedral and The Bishop's Palace and also
Ardross, Duncraig and Skibo Castles).
Up to the early sixties the dwelling house (left) and the school itself (right) were
still in use for educating the children of Borreraig.
Now the dwelling house has been turned into a charming holiday house as
an
ideal and comfortable base for discovering the beauty of Skye.
- Inside the accommodation comprises:

the house a large single
bedroom and to the front one double
bedroom and one single bedroom. Bathroom
with shower.
- Heating is by a combination of night storage radiators, electric heaters and open
fire in the living room. Hot water
is by electricity.
- The kitchen is equipped with a modern electric cooker, microwave oven, fridge, coffee
maker and dishwasher.
- The utility room has got a second sink, a washing machine and a tumble
dryer.
